Malcolm Grieve

1999 Selkirk Incorporation of Fleshers Standard Bearer

Malcolm Grieve joined the Incorporation in 1987, but has been involved from the beginning when his brother, Lindsay was the first name on the Fleshers sash. In 1979 Lindsay approached the Selkirk Common Riding Trust to incorporate the Fleshers. He carried the colours in 1980 and cast the colours in 1981.

Malcolm was an apprentice for two years before joining the army at fifteen. Upon leaving the forces he he started as an apprentice in his brother's shop and, at 32, was the oldest in the town. He is still a member of the Territorial Army.

He played for the Selkirk Youth Rugby Football Club for before joining the army where he continued in the sport. Returning to his home town, he played prop for Selkirk first team for 4 years.

Tearesa, his wife, looks forward to being Lady Busser. Malcolm and Tearesa have four children; Stacy, 6, Stephanie, 5, Sophie, 2 and Ross, who will be 9 months old when his father casts the Fleshers colours.

The 1999 Fleshers Deacon, Alan Linton, cast the colours himself in 1993.

Jessie Rae will toast the Royal and Ancient Burgh of Selkirk at the Fleshers bussing of the colours. The singer is well known for his wearing of the traditional kilt with helmet and broadsword.

Malcolm feels that is is "A tremendous privallege to be the Selkirk Incorporation of Fleshers Standard Bearer, 20 years after his brother". Lindsay is said to be "over the moon" with his brother's appointment.
