The Standard Bearers

Selkirk Incorporation of Hammermen

The Selkirk Incorporation of Hammermen held its Annual General Meeting in the County Hotel on Tuesday 10th April, 2001 with Deacon Les Millar in the Chair.

The Meeting was very well attended with well over 60 Members present to hear Deacon Millar, in his remarks, thank all present for their valuable support to him and for the Craft during his four years as Deacon. He congratulated Kevin Fairbairn on the exemplary manner in which he had carried out his duties as Hammermen Standard Bearer for 2000 and also to Jim Newlands, the Hammermen Representative on the Common Riding Trust, on his memorable year as Honorary Provost.

The most important appointment of the evening was the Election of TOMMY COMBE as the Selkirk Incorporation of Hammermen Standard Bearer for 2001. Tommy, an electrician to trade - was the unanimous and popular choice for the position of Standard Bearer for 2001.

On accepting the position as Standard Bearer, Tommy thanked the Craft for the high honour they had bestowed on him. He expressed his delight on being appointed Standard Bearer for the year 2001 and pledged to carry out his duties to the best of his ability, to the complete satisfaction of the Incorporation and to maintain the high standards of former Craft Standard Bearers.
