Selkirk's annual event to celebrate the Charters granted to the Burgh.

Selkirk Incorporation Of Hammermen

The Selkirk Incorporation of Hammermen held its Annual General Meeting in the County Hotel on Tuesday 9th April, 2002 with Deacon Rodney Pow in the Chair.

The Meeting was very well attended with over 40 Members present to hear Deacon Pow, in his remarks, thank all present for their valuable support to him and for the Craft during the past difficult year. He congratulated Tommy Combe on the exemplary manner in which he had carried out his duties as Hammermen Standard Bearer for 2002.

He also requested a minute of silence for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and for Ex-Provost and Scottish Borders Councillor Tom Henderson.

Following the Boxmasters, United Crafts, Common Riding Executive and Trust Reports the Meeting moved on to the most important part of the evening with the appointment of the Craft Officials for 2002.

The following officers were elected:

Deacon : Rodney Pow
Colleague : Les Millar.
Clerk : Tommy Knox..
Boxmaster : Billy Birse.
Officer : Alan Heatlie.

The most important appointment of the evening was the Election of Jason Fairbairn as the Selkirk Incorporation of Hammermen Standard Bearer for 2002.

Jason, a Plumber to trade - was the unanimous and popular choice for the position of Standard Bearer for 2002.

On accepting the position as Standard Bearer, Jason thanked the Craft for the high honour they had bestowed on him.

He expressed his delight on being appointed Standard Bearer for 2002 and pledged to carry out his duties to the best of his ability, to the complete satisfaction of the Incorporation and to the high standard of former Craft Standard Bearers.

It was also announced at the Meeting that the Incorporation are actively planning a visit to Plattling in September/October 2003.
