Selkirk's annual event to celebrate the Charters granted to the Burgh.

The Selkirk Incorporation of Hammermen

The Meeting was very well attended with over 40 Members present to hear Deacon Pow, in his remarks, thank all present for their valuable support to him and for the Craft during the past year.
He congratulated Jason Fairbairn on the exemplary manner in which he had carried out his duties as Hammermen Standard Bearer for 2002.

Deacon Pow commented on the successful year for the Incorporation and made special mention of the Presentation Evening held in September when all the Craft Standard Bearers were presented with
Their Hammermen Pins. He also intimated that the Craft will visit Selkirk’s twin town, Plattling, in the Autumn.

Following the Boxmasters, United Crafts, Common Riding Executive and Trust Reports the Meeting moved on to the important part of the evening with the appointment of the Craft Officials for 2003.

The following officers were elected :

Deacon : Rodney Pow
Colleague : Les Millar.
Clerk : Tommy Knox..
Boxmaster Billy Birse.
Officer : Alan Heatlie.

Jim Newlands [Ex-Deacon, Ex-Standard Bearer and Ex Provost] was bestowed with the special award of Honorary Life Membership of the Selkirk Incorporation of Hammermen for his outstanding service to the Craft and the Royal Burgh of Selkirk.

The most important appointment of the evening was the Election of ALAN LAWRIE as the
Selkirk Incorporation of Hammermen Standard Bearer for 2003
Alan, a Mason to trade - was the unanimous and popular choice for the position of Standard Bearer for 2003.

On accepting the position as Standard Bearer, Alan thanked the Craft for the high honour they had bestowed on him.

He expressed his delight and privilege on being appointed Standard Bearer for 2003 and pledged to carry out his duties to the best of his ability, to the complete satisfaction of the Incorporation and to the high standard of former Craft Standard Bearers.
