Robert Clappertons Daylight Photographic Studio has been in existence in the Royal Burgh of Selkirk since 1867. It traded for three generations under the family name of the founder Robert Clapperton, all using the original daylight Studio. They all carried out the traditional craft of photographers in Selkirk and the Scottish Borders and have left a unique archive of photographic images of the life and times in which they worked and the Studio where they worked.

The present proprietors, the fourth generation, demonstrate features of the studio which has been set up as a working museum and photographic archive, still in the same building erected by Robert Clapperton in 1867.

  • See displays illustrating how the Victorian and Edwardian photographers organised the taking of studio photographs.
  • See how the finished print was produced from the original glass negative, some of which date from the 1860's.
  • Photographs may be purchased from the archive. Black and White or Sepia toned prints can be supplied, also mounted and framed in quality frames.
  • Notelets, postcards and books are also on sale in the Studio.
